Privacy Policy
This Privacy Policy explains how the Douyin Video Downloader Extension (the “Extension”) processes and protects user information.
1. The Extension’s Function
The Extension’s primary function is to help users download videos from Douyin pages that they are authorized to access.
The Extension does not require users to create an account or submit personal identity information.
2. Information We Process
2.1 Information Stored Locally
To provide the video download function, the Extension may store the following information locally in the browser on the user’s device:
- Video filename settings;
- Video quality settings;
- Download directory settings;
- Download notification settings;
- Temporary technical request parameters used to parse Douyin videos;
- Temporary state information required for the Extension to operate normally.
This information remains on the user’s device. It is not intentionally uploaded to the developer’s server or sent to Google Analytics.
Users can remove locally stored information by clearing the Extension’s data in their browser or uninstalling the Extension.
2.2 Anonymous Error Statistics
The Extension collects only anonymous statistical information for error diagnosis.
Anonymous error statistics are used only to:
- Diagnose Extension runtime errors;
- Analyze error types;
- Improve Extension stability;
- Improve the reliability of the video download function.
The Extension does not use anonymous error statistics for advertising, user profiling, credit evaluation or data brokerage.
2.3 Douyin Page and Video Data
To complete a video download initiated by the user, the Extension may process technical information required for the download, including video playback addresses, video metadata and video download addresses.
This information is used only to:
- Identify the video selected by the user;
- Obtain available video sources;
- Select the requested video quality;
- Save the video to the user’s local device.
Video files are saved to the local directory selected by the user through the browser’s download function. The Extension does not upload downloaded video files to the developer’s server or send them to Google Analytics.
The Extension operates only within the pages and media addresses required for its video download function. It does not monitor websites unrelated to this function.
3. Purposes of Processing
We process information only for the following purposes:
- Providing the video download function requested by the user;
- Saving the user’s download settings;
- Obtaining technical metadata required to download a video;
- Diagnosing Extension runtime errors;
- Improving Extension stability and reliability;
- Maintaining the normal operation and security of the Extension.
We do not use information for purposes unrelated to the Extension’s functions.
4. Third-Party Service: Google Analytics
The Extension uses Google Analytics Measurement Protocol to process anonymous error statistics.
Google Analytics is used only to:
- Measure Extension runtime errors;
- Analyze error types;
- Improve Extension stability;
- Diagnose technical problems that affect video downloads.
Anonymous error statistics are transmitted to Google Analytics over HTTPS.
Google may process standard network request metadata as part of operating its services. Google’s handling of relevant information is governed by its own privacy policy and service terms:
5. Data Sharing, Sale and Advertising
The Extension does not sell, rent, license or trade user information.
The Extension does not use user information for:
- Personalized advertising;
- Interest-based advertising;
- Advertising retargeting;
- User profiling;
- Credit evaluation;
- Financial or lending decisions;
- Commercial analysis unrelated to the Extension’s functions.
6. Data Retention
6.1 Local Data
Information stored locally on the user’s device remains stored until one of the following occurs:
- The user clears the Extension’s data;
- The user resets the Extension;
- The user uninstalls the Extension;
- The Extension no longer needs the temporary information and deletes it.
6.2 Google Analytics Data
Anonymous error statistics are processed through Google Analytics.
For a standard Google Analytics 4 property, the shortest currently configurable retention period for user-level and event-level data is two months. After the applicable period, the relevant user-level and event-level data is automatically deleted according to Google Analytics’ data retention mechanism.
The two-month period in this policy primarily refers to raw user-level and event-level analytics data in Google Analytics. Aggregated statistical reports already generated by Google Analytics may be retained according to Google Analytics’ applicable rules.
7. User Controls
Users can control locally generated Extension data by:
- Clearing the Extension’s data in the browser;
- Uninstalling the Extension;
- Stopping use of the Extension.
After the Extension is uninstalled, it will not generate new error statistics.
Historical statistical data that has already been sent to and processed by Google Analytics will be handled according to Google Analytics’ data retention rules.
If you have questions about information processed by the Extension or this Privacy Policy, please contact us using the email address in Section 11.
8. Information Security
The Extension uses HTTPS when communicating with Google Analytics, Douyin and related media services.
We use reasonable technical measures to protect locally stored information and network communications. However, no method of internet transmission or electronic storage can guarantee absolute security.
If an incident occurs that may affect information security, we will take the necessary response and remedial measures required by applicable law.
9. Children’s Privacy
The Extension is not specifically designed for children.
We do not knowingly request personal information from children under the age of 14.
If a parent or guardian believes that a child has provided personal information to the Extension, please contact us using the email address in Section 11.
10. Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy when the Extension’s functions, permissions, third-party services or data processing practices change.
The updated Privacy Policy will remain available at the same public URL, and the “Last updated” date will be changed to reflect the revision date.
If the data processing practices change materially, we will provide an appropriate notice to users where required by applicable law.
